I only know this. I almost bought a 2010 recently that was a trade assist vehicle. The dealer said there was a problem with ABS (I think, I'm going from memory) and that BMW "assisted" the owner with a trade into another BMW. This car was still under full factory warranty but not eligible for CPO in California. I don't know why, and didn't care since I'm not in CA.
There is a disclosure form you sign and it shows up when a BMW dealer runs the VIN #. It DOES NOT (at least in this case) show up on Carfax or Autocheck.
