Congrats on the 1st post but you're wrong.
Like rmnoonan said... if you don't have BMW Assist, you need the y-cable.
OP- I suspect ebay as a source of bunk cables. Your dealer should have provided you with a y-cable. Have you checked you car manual? Mine was in there.
