I use a Dovo straight razor and I'll never go back to the disposable razors!
I have really sensitive skin and it would always be red after shaving, no matter how much preparation I did and soaps/lotions I used.

The first time I used a straight razor it looked like I got out of a knife fight, but I got better with time. I suggest using an alum block for any cuts since it closes up the wound immediately.

Now I just shave with a straight razor, and use shaving soap and badger's hair brush. No lotions or aftershaves, and now after every shave my skin is not red or irritated. I just rinse off any remaining soap, dry my face and continue with my day.
