For BMW, it could be yes and no. The only 7s that beat the S-Class in any sales year were the The E38 and the E65 generations. The similarity is that they were polar opposites of the S Class, and they were both strong sellers.
Today it's a blood bath...3 to 1 sales numbers as you pointed out. So BMW must go bold yet again.
