Both--when I purchased BC 1.5 years ago it worked fine. BC updated the app this past summer such that HU-NBT module was no longer accessible if the car had 3rd-party coding, citing some customers had complained about errors. Unfortunately, Apple doesn't allow you to revert to an earlier version of the app, either. Here is the quote from BC:
"The headunit has to be in its original state. If you used a third party solution to enable CarPlay or the navigation has been unlocked, these changes have to be reverted, because BimmerCode will not allow coding the headunit otherwise. Retrofitted iDrive systems may also not be accessible under certain circumstances."
