all modern diesel cars (VW, Jeep, BMW, MB) are going to have the same issues with diesel emissions equipment malfunction. My X5 had a ton of it throughout it's life, thankfully all covered under original/CPO/limited 10-year warranties. The X5 had 1 major issues that was fixed under CPO not related to emissions, which was defective turbos and oil leaks.

That said, the car has been bulletproof for over 1 year now since my last fix.

Also the VW diesels are legal and will be legal. There's already a settlement for the I-5 diesels, current owners of the V6 diesels will get a pretty hefty check from VW, likely around $7k-$10k. So most people are holding on to them until the passing of the record date for settlement.
