Same but the benefit is that matte finishes look different from the swaths of other black 7ers out there. It's the same reason why black wheels are popular even if they don't necessarily make a car look any better.

I should clarify. Black wheels can look amazing. The OEM M3/4 wheels look great black/machined. What I can't stand is the poorly done plastidipped black wheels which out number the tasteful black wheels that look great when executed properly.
That I can agree with. The quality of the work makes the biggest difference.
