I did the same exercise. One problem with your scaling is that the redline of the current M3 is 8400, it appears to be closer to 8600 on your scale. However, it also just isn't possible to have the current M3 redline at 8400, start at 1000 rpm and the first knee in the torque curve at 3500 rpm (have a look at the "exact" curves directly from BMW). In short these are basically marketing cartoons and are not very precise at all.
