I doubt anyone is doing this for anything but aesthetics. When I went down 1" I did have improved handling, tighter turns, and felt more planted. With less suspension travel to absorb the bumps, when the suspension was in comfort mode, it felt like sport, and sport felt slightly harder than it did before. Felt like comfort in my F10 M5.
I didn't see my gas mileage suffer but then again, it wasn't something I was concerned with.
