In iDrive, click Map then onscreen click Options, then Navigation Settings, then Position and software version, then Software version.
Look for NBTevo_. What letter is immediately after the underscore? Current version is Q.
This is somewhat an indicator of how old your iStep may be. To be sure your dealer can tell you.
BTW, the software users can download through the BMW update site only updates some minor Bluetooth, Media and/or BMW Assist functionality/compatibility.
