If Apple ever did actually go through with switching from Intel to their own processors in the Mac line, it would be an app compatibility train wreck greater than their switch from RISC-based Mac processors to Intel chips back in the day. As someone who hasn't even finished up with the 32-bit app replacements required by Catalina yet, there's no f-in-weigh that I would want to have a first-year Mac after an architecture change like that!
Of course, my 3-month-old MacBook Pro with 8 cores of Intel i9 CPU goodness will likely see me through the end of the PC era and beyond.....
