Depends how worn they are. We don’t like to have more than a 2mm difference across axles, otherwise the car brakes differently. Also on 4 wheel drive, we have always been told not to have more than a 2mm difference across the same axle and more than 3mm front to back, otherwise it puts more strain on the system.

This is based primarily on the VW group 4 wheel drive systems, from Mastertech’s, but not tested this with our BMW techs yet, but should be able to get a response from BMW UK if I ask officially.
