The under seat lockbox with the cable will prevent a smash and grab. Nothing will stop a thief who steals your car or has the time to cut the cable. I assume most thieves aren't actively searching for a gun in lockbox, so they aren't carrying bolt cutters.
If you can't carry your gun on you, and you can't fit a Console Vault in your car, then those cable-secured boxes are the next best option.
