I normally change cars every 3 to 4 years, so broadly at about 40k miles - some a bit longer, some a bit shorter.

However, the lockdown and probable change to working life going forward, ie. only likely to go into the office 2 or 3 times per month after this, and very few supplier visits (due to Teams) - when we eventually get back to normal. After week 3 of working at home, I am now quite enjoying it and in a routine. Since the end of March, I have averaged 12 miles per month, so even if I do 3,000 miles a year, that is very different from my current 14,000 miles a year.

So on that basis, it is going to be very difficult to justify spending lots of money on a car to just sit in the drive, so I may just decide to keep this one for quite some time.

I always buy outright, and do not lease etc, so it is just the depreciation hit, which if I keep for longer doesn’t really matter any more
