I believe the perception that diesels somehow 'cleaned up their act' was found to be spectacularly informed by one of the greatest commercial frauds ever perpetuated. Rather than say they'd fix their ways, BMW and all the other manufacturers simply gave up any attempt to pretext diesels were clean and are vacating the field by abandoning their diesels.
No many would surely would trust the emissions data published for any diesel these days?
