Can anyone explain to me about the 'Leather Engine Cover' option?
Featured on BIMMERPOST.com What is the purpose of that if I may ask? And what tangible benefit (if any) would it entail? I mean, when you look at upgrades from the usual standard to optional features, you can see a noticeable benefit: -HID Xenon headlamps (Option 522) -> LED front headlamps (Option 552) -BMW Basic Loudspeaker -> Harman Kardon -> Bang & Olufsen -> Bower & Wilkins (in the future) -Upgrading to Ceramic Controls -etc etc But for the "Leather Engine Cover", what purpose does it serve? ALSO Wouldn't leather melt compared to plastic? |

The car will have a plastic switch console on the dash but a leather engine cover which no one can see except their mechanics. BMW logic right there.

I'm pretty sure someone messed something up with the rumours. The leather engine cover is probably on the option on the i8, which can be selected now. Over the engine bay in the i8, it offers a leather option, not cloth or plastic or whatever it is in the trunk of the i8.
