I have a 2015 X5 and the material on the dash looks like it is shrinking and pulling off. I live in Texas and wonder it is the heat?

The heat may play a part but I've seen this over 20 years ago on a garage-kept Z3 in Virginia.

That’s unfortunate to hear. One would think these auto manufacturers have mastered and nailed down the effects of heat on plastics. After all this isn’t the 1970’s when interior plastics exploded on the scene and auto makers didn’t know what to expect. The whole point of doing product testing in the extreme desert and arctic parts of the world is so there are no surprises after the vehicle is launched. But unfortunately one thing that is very hard to simulate is time.

I had the same issue on my ‘17 640i convertible. The local BMW dealer wanted nothing to do with me but quoted $8k to replace the entire dash (it was a one piece). I got rid of the car a week later.
Long story, longer- there was nothing anyone could/would do; the damage was done. And apparently this is still an issue and that is why I went with the SensaTec dash on my ordered G20/B58 |

Not too sure I believe that – looks more like those cars were next to something that was on fire. If the Sun was generating that kind of heat everyone in Arizona would be dead.
Unless this was meant as a joke, in which case, "whoosh!" |
