Roof bars for 2016 G12

Planning to do a long tip with the family later this year and need to learn more about roof bar options.

My car doesn't have roof strips with flaps in them. Are the connecting points under there anyway, and I just need to get new strips? Or it it more complicated than that?

I have a pretty decent Thule roof bar/bike carrier setup from my my old Eclass. I presume it'll be possible to fit the Thule system to the G12 as long as I purchase the right 'feet' for it?

Any advice appreciated.

I did some initial research and I think the G12s don't have that capability due to the roof I think. G11s do for some reason.

Subscribing if there's a solution as I'm in the same boat.

I have discussed this with my BMW dealer and you "only" need to change the roof stripes.

Thanks. I have a quote from my BMW dealer for €970 ($1175) plus the cost to spray the new roof strips. That includes the official BMW roof bars. It seems like a crazy price but I don't think I have any option.

Why not talk to a bodyshop, as most dealers would outsource paint and body to them anyway. You might save a significant markup!

So here is confirmation is that it IS possible to fit roof bars to a G12. Cost was €1300 in total, which is crazy but it's done now. Sun roof opens fine and wind noise is quite low. I'm happy enough overall.

Roof moldings 51137410313 and 51137410314 are needed to install the cross bars (82712351061) and will need to be painted to match as well (they are bare aluminum).

Hi folks! New owner here. Just bought a 2022 G12 745Le with a two-year warranty. 😊

The previous owner already installed the required roof strips, so I just need the roof bars.

Prices here in Brazil are crazy: dealers are asking around USD 1,120 just for the roof bars. But I need them to use my Thule roof box so I’ll have to bite the bullet.

My question is: do the roof bars use quick clamps, or do they need to be screwed in?

Well, I ordered it from Germany, and it finally arrived. It’s mounted with a screw, which isn’t ideal — I once had a Citroën C5 that used a quick-release clamp.

I’m not sure it looks good, but it does the job.
