BMW M7 claimed to be coming, again
BIMMERPOST NEWS BMW M7 claimed to be coming, again BMW has consistently denied the possibility of an M7, with BMW M stating that it was not in the plans as of late 2013. The reason has been that the 7 Series' goal of providing the ultimate comfortable large sedan is incompatible with the racing roots of the M division. But, we now have the X5 M and X6 M so there goes that problem. As many before them, Autobild is claiming that the M7 is coming to take on the likes of the Mercedes S63 AMG and Audi S8. Power would be over 600hp and price speculated to be around 140,000 euros. We'd love to see an M7 of course, but an important question is if there's enough room in the lineup for the standard 7 series and both the rumored M770i and M7? That's probably the question being mulled upon in BMW's board room. |

Haha I just made a poll about it here:
http://www.7post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1120994 There is debate on this. Either way, I can't see how an M770i would surpass a 760 Li M-Sport Only a full fledged M7 can fulfill that role... |

Right now! It's okay for sure!
After BMW released X5M and X6M, inserted M550i and M235i and used all the marketing methods to invest M badge, sure it's good to have an actual M7!

If the M7 is real, could it be because of the CLAR platform? I'm assuming BMW would be saving a lot of development time? Not to say that the M3=M7 or they underlying chassis configuration is the same but now that 3, 5 and 7-Series will be platform sharing, the base is already there and there wouldn't be a need to develop or config a standalone chassis for the M7 if the take rate would be low.

How many electric crap mobiles do we need to tolerate to offset the M7's effect on BMW's CAFE?

I'd love to see an xDrive M7 Grand Coupe Touring Cabriolet.
With 6MT.

Please please please! Don't quote Autobild as a "source". :'(
They announced 276 M1 successors since 1856! -.-' Autobild is not a source.

If they make the M7 and it's even lighter using more cfrp with M suspension and engine wow this thing will run all over S8 and AMG.

S63 AMG and S8 both exist. An M7 just makes sense in regard to having an answer for those, but it does seem a bit niche.

Diesel makes more sense especially when you will have an Alpina B7.
In Europe more people buy the 750d than the 750i. Combine both with M and you get the worlds first Diesel performance luxury car.

In the US diesel is hindered because it costs more than premium.

Perhaps an M7 could have a hybrid drivetrain like the i8.
S63 Twin Turbo V8 (550Hp/500lbft) mated to the same electric motor from the i8 (129Hp/184lbft). So about 680Hp and 685lbft...mingle that with some of the CFRP/CF pieces that BMW is using and VOILA! M7 This of course would be the first xDrive M sedan...but with that much torque I don't see why not. |
