the late 90's 7 series looked much cooler than the S class at the time. only since then has it suffered.

Only reason I could see to go 7 over S is cheaper lease rate.

The interior looks nice, much more modern than the S-class imo but the S-class is just still much more luxurious looking on the inside. Exterior wise, I think the A8 beats them both but need to wait for official pics of this thing. I wonder if they're gonna have the full luxo 4 seat option with a massive center console like in the S-Class/A8/Range Rover, guess we'll just have to wait and see

OMG! So innovative. Silver painted finish in the interior! WOW! Honestly wonder how well that treatment holds up to wear and tear. Hope it doesn't chip or get worn out easily. BORING iteration. S Class got it beat hands down.

Two immediate reactions:
1) The design is very bland. What a boring car. 2) I am not a fan of the headlights connected to the kidney grills on any of the current-gen BMWs that use that design characteristic, and this is the worst application of that design so far. That all said, I'll reserve final judgment until I see the marketing shots.

Noted. However, footrests don't offer the thigh support as offered by an ottoman.

My friend just bought an S65 AMG. Sat in it this weekend. Screw this piece of rubbish from BMW. What an ugly car. Not even photogenic. Looks bland and ugly from the front and side. Even the rear is bland and blends with so many other cars. Forget about the interior - looks ugly as hell. I don't have to see a car in person to appreciate it fully. It should be photogenic. It should inspire emotions when you look at it in a photo.
My dad is selling his 7 series and going for the S class. What Mercedes builds and offers right off the bat, BMW takes years to produce and they come up with this nonsense. Look at the S class - they have the regular ones, then 2 variations of AMG, the Maybach and then the Pullman. But BMW will take 2-4 years to come up with an M7, if at all. The M Sport is just like the 6 series bumper and fog lights tacked on to the 7 series. Like putting lipstick on an ugly pig. No effort made by the designers, or if they made any effort, it seems management just said, "No, we need to cut costs because we spent too much on the i program and all the other models we have been making." |

A 7 series is an athletic expression of the executive sedan. Won't know if it's boring until a drive. It's an understated car, but the 7 always was. It's purpose driven and all business; like a fine tailored suit on a futballer or whatever. The S class has no competition, it's sits alone on the iron throne of luxury.

Have to admit, pretty disappointed because the people who went to the private viewing severely over exaggerated the quality and the design of the new 7er (on par with Rolls Royce? Not even close). That's not to say this isn't a quality car but not at the level most of us were hoping.
I think the F01 7-Series was a lot better executed than the new 7er both exterior and interior. The use of aluminum in the interior is a bit much for me, not sure why they moved away from what they did in the 5er, 6er and the last 7er and the black panel. |
