Need help from lighting experts here
Hello everyone about 2 years ago I purchased an HID kit for the angel eyes on my 2012 F01. I bought the kit from Alex from AlpineMSS. Overall I'm very satisfied with the kit, however I'm having a peculiar problem with one side.
There is a small little bulb that lights up the eyebrow of the head light. One side lights up and one side will not. When I put the stock H8 bulb back in, both sides light up fine. If anyone has experience with this, please help Right side eyebrow lighting up Left side eyebrown not lighting up Put stock H8 bulb back in and left side lights up |

It's my understanding that the eyebrow lighting is built into the housing and not accessible with disassembling the housing.
The H8 is only for the halo rings (daytime running lights). That's why your halos have a 6000k+ (blue-ish) kelvin rating based on the color I'm seeing. Your eyebrow is an incandescent yellowish color.

thanks momos, but all you've really pointed out is what you see with my lighting setup.
It's actually a 30000k HID and it gives an amazing blue/purple colour. I find it strange there's a bulb or LED inside that head housing which isn't serviceable. I know it's working because when unlock the doors with the FOB and all the lights turn on, the eyebrow lights up. It's only when I start the car, it trips out and fails to light up. I guess these are the challenges that come with aftermarket HID kits. |

I experienced a similar problem with an HID kit I installed on my fog lamps on my F10. Worked great for almost a year and then after a visit to the dealer I started having problems with the drivers side not firing up. I swapped the ballasts from driver side to passenger side and the drivers side remained out. Did the same with the entire harness and the bulbs, same result. So I knew it wasn't the HID components. When I replaced the HID setup with the stock bulbs, everything worked. I thought somehow the dealer changed some coding on the car and it was now incompatible with the HID kit. I asked around to everyone that might understand what was going on and nobody had any ideas. I ended up removing the kit and did without it for a year.
I finally reinstalled it and was still having the same issue. This time I was too lazy to remove it immediately after and one day while I was in the middle of a trip I turned them on an voila, they came on and no errors! I finally figured out that the dealer probably did do some sort of update and what happens is upon startup the car runs some diagnostics and during that period the sensors are able to detect the HID kit and shuts it down. If I start the car and wait about 90 seconds and then turn them on, they work no problem. Not sure this helps your scenario, but this is what I was able to figure out. Good luck.

This is a great solution for fog light lights because they don't turn on with the car. Unfortunately halos usually turn on with the car.
This is a tough one but I'm determined to figure it out |

Are your DRL's coded to work with your HID's?
It could be that the voltage, amperage, resistance, etc. of your HID's could be slightly or measurably different causing your eyebrows to malfunction. The electrical system is very sensitive. I say this because when you put the stock halogen H8 back in it seems to function fine. Do you get any lighting errors in the CIC cluster?

try reversing your HID bulbs. See if the eyebrow failure follows the bulb. If it does, there's your answer.

I had to do it with mine. I switched my stock H8 halogens to H8 LED's and had to code the ECU to know which kind of bulb to use. Otherwise the ECU checks the bulbs like every 4 mins for malfunctions. Because the HID's have a different wattage, amperage, and resistance than the halogens, you are going to constantly throw errors, and probably the reason your eyebrows don't work right either. If Alex is your coder talk to him and have him code your lights. He should know how to do that. It's can only be done with E-Sys. In fact if you change any other bulb in the car, exterior or interior, from halogen to LED those will need to be coded also.

Just so I am clear... Are you stating that your car did NOT come stock with HID headlights? If so, I would echo the 'coding' aspect of them not working.

He changed his DRL's (halos) from the stock halogen H8 to a HID setup. He is now having issues with the eyebrow light in the top of the headlight assembly working correctly after the HID install.
