Rough-legged hawk pauses eating a prairie dog (believe me, you don't want to see it) just long enough for me to take its portrait.

Nice one Dave. I also have a bunch of shots that when I look at them in Lightroom, I just say to myself, Nah, that is a bit too gruesome to share

Yeah, in this case it's meat, fur and an eyeball. I only know that it's a prairie dog by the color of the fur and it's in the middle of a PD village. I do have it over on a non-shared file on Flickr, if anyone insists on seeing the evidence.

Two things make them really hard to shoot. First, the "grey ghost" (grey colored male harrier) is generally very illusive, such that you might see 10 females before you see a male. Second, they fly very low to the ground and focusing on the bird vs. the cattails and marsh bushes that are just a few feet below is very hard. Actually there's three, they fly in erratic patterns, making them hard to track.

I would add that on both the male and female, it is very hard to NOT blow out the bright white rump patch without completely underexposing the rest of the bird

One never knows. Cool place to visit if you're into the geeky side of SIGINT.

And coincidentally, I was in Alan Turing's office today. He is now the face of the Brit £50 note.

I'll probably buy mine in October, before I go on a Med cruise. I'll want those shots to be high rez.

I've been an early adopter several times in the past, but I hate that 45-day or so period when my RAW converter doesn't work with the new body. Phase One is clunky and not near as versatile as DxO PhotoLab.
