This looks better for some reason. The bumper is different (if you observe carefully the shape has changed under the headlights) and I really like the new grill (with the more pronounced chrome outline). It blends better and kinda hides its size. My only worry (dread if I may say so) is BMW's usual letdown as of late - the lower part of the bumper with the air intakes. I expect something really mediocre that will give the fron an "overbite" a bit like in the new 5er, 6er and current 7er :-( I hope they come up with something nicer. But I find the overal shape really nice, proportioned and flowing. Quite sleek really. I don't know about sales, people tend to say the S-Class is the king of the class, etc but the 7er definitely sells well everywhere.

Judging by these pics, it looks like they're putting in the Bang & Olufsen sound system too, notice the covering over the instrument panel (indicating a rising midrange speaker like the 6'er)
Also wonder if they'll change the interior door pull handles/wood trim. Pictures show something weird is going on there. I remember how everyone hated the original E60 door pulls and BMW changed it with the LCI.

Did anyone actually notice that this is an Active Hybrid 7 ?!?
@Chips335d: Not sure if that's really a raised speaker since the material they have on the dashboard is covering everything from the driver side A pillar to the center of the car... Also, I don't think they really changed the interior door handles as the door looks still the same to me. The pictures show the brushed aluminum trim...

Well for the last generation they literally had to polish a turd. The pre lci E65 was hideous in my opinion. But the F01 pre lci looks pretty good and there are only a few things you can do to make it look better.

Hasn't been a success my ass, they've been selling very well. My coworker just traded his M5 for a 740iL, it's the most roomy and comfortable car I've ever been in.

They've been selling well for sure. Especially with the 740i coming out in 2011. The car is already in it's 4th model year (2012), so the LCI is not really coming early. Time just flies when you're having fun!

Haven't decided whether it will compliment or replace my M3. Will sort that out when I take re-delivery of the 7 sometime in November.

@Ziggy99: The 760 was the first of the BMWs to actually get the 8 speed tranny... Mind you though, the 760's 8 speed is NOT the same as those found in other BMWs now as it has a higher torque rating (to match the output of the twin turbo 6.0L V12).
Also, the Active Hybrid 7 had the 8 speed from the beginning as well. IIRC, the 5 series GT was next in line with the 8 speed transmission. The 7 series LCI will get the same 8 speed transmission as the one found in the F10 550.

I live in lexington Kentucky. I am lucky to see two f01's a month. On the other hand I see S550's and LS460's on every corner.

@MI6: What LCD Instrument cluster are you talking about?
The full screen LCD instrument cluster that was recently posted about? That apparently won't be available for 2 years... The F01/02 series has had the high res LCD instrument cluster (the bottom portion of the odometer and speedometer) since it's introduction in 2008.

To your eyes, the awkward and bobtailed s classless may look better but to some of us, it is quite ugly inside and out. The smartest thing my dad ever did was trading that boat for the F10; he hasn't regretted it one bit. Funny how everytime I drive it, I get a compliment on it. I can easily count the number of compliments I got on his s classless--ZERO. |

Following on from the revealings of the 7er LCi prototypes...
L'Automobile-magazine.fr is first out of the starting blocks with a render of the forthcoming BMW 7er LCi. Whilst some elements portray the new facia of the car , there are some minor details not present. Yes the 7er will receive full LED headlights to compliment the new 6er Coupe and are shown here but they seem to have overlooked the indicators. Sticking with the headlights the recess underneath which will now meet with the lower edge of the kidney grille in a more swoopier fashion is not present in this rendering. The new recess which follows in the angle of the new lower intake opening, which follows the same idea taken from the BMW Concept 7 Active Hybrid car from 2008. The Kidney grille will get a thicker chrome outline aswell as "chiseled" bars similar found in the 6er and 5er on some models. The mirrors now incorporate the side indicators allowing the chrome insignia between the door and front wheel arche to become a decorative addition with some models - V12 for example displaying it's cylinder count. The M-Sport Packet also gets a slight refreshening. Big news is the inclusion of the renowned BMW 8-Speed Auto Transmission now making it's debut in lower 7er models for the first time. Along with some adjustments to the engine range. BMW will launch the highly awaited Tri-Turbo Six cylinder diesel as the BMW750d , BMW 750dLi. Available with M-Packet and Optional xDrive model. Launched first within the BMW X6 xDrive 50d in next year's LCi.The BMW 750d will be BMW's most powerful diesel to date with an an output of 354PS. Beginning with the BMW X6 and BMW 7er LCi. The first all new BMW to inherit the engine will be the new BMW 6er Gran Coupe. And by the close of 2012 the option will be available on the BMW 5er Sedan/Touring and Gran Turismo. BMW 6er Coupe and Cabrio and finally the BMW X5 as it's last song on the stage.
