park distance control?
is it possible to activate the front PDC automatically at slow speeds? i really find it annoying to have to switch it on manually. the rears are fine since it activates automatically in reverse.
mercedes' parktronic system automatically switches the fronts at slow speeds to aid in frontal maneuvers. |

I don't think so. But if you press the side view camera button, it will also turn the front and rear PDC on (if you set it up that way).

That was a question of mine too. In previous vehicles, front and rear are activated below a certain speed.

I used to have a Merc and didn't like it coming on the front automatically because it was always beeping in stop go traffic, especially when the weather was very hot.
I guess when you face a blank wall during parking, like the inside of your garage, the automatic activation whould be nice. I always reverse park my BMW so it comes on automatically for my daily parking... |

Well, I guess the best would be if BMW would give us owners the option to choose if we want this enabled or not. Meaning there should be an option in the settings menu to let us select if we wanted this feature to come on automatically at low speeds. That way whoever prefers this feature can have it and those of us that don't can just leave it disabled Best of both worlds!
Hope BMW reads these boards and picks up some ideas

Another advantage of it not coming on automatically is when its snowing. My MB park control beeps off when I'm moving really slow in a snowstorm. Rather annoying.

With the full camera package on the 2011 F01/F02 models, you get a total of 5 cameras (not counting the IR/night vision camera) vs. 3 cameras on the 2009/2010 F01/F02 models! So it's NOT just a software upgradeable feature!

I think lane departure warning camera is mounted in the center rear view mirror........but could be wrong. That's how Audi did it.

I think the top view cameras mounted in the exterior rear view mirror were first introduced on the X5M and X6M, although the option has been in the BMW parts database for quite a few years as an retrofit camera option!

Always on the right track. Lane Departure Warning in the BMW 7 Series Sedan. The camera installed near the interior mirror on the windscreen monitors road markings and their position versus the car as well as the edge of the road or lane. The system is activated whenever the vehicle leaves its current lane unintentionally and alerts the driver by making the steering wheel vibrate. When the driver indicates their intention to change the lane by using the indicator, there is no warning signal. |
