Hi everybody!
dbs600 asked to start this thread for many times Here I'll post the cars I've created last 2 years - maybe you've seen some of them somewhere before - I've posted them on Russian BMW-owners club forum. As major part of the cars are 7-series the thread will be on 7post. Frankly speaking I'm not very sure if this stuff is demanded here in US - so your comments are welcome Lets start from one recent project - I've received an inquiry to produce 750Li xDrive in yellow color. Yeah, sounds mind-blowing but why not? - it was 6th 7er purchased by this guy and two last were white - he wanted something special... It was the first time ever BMW built 7er in yellow - I've seen 2 cars in the Internet, but both were non-originals (1 re-sprayed - another foiled). We decided to use Atacama Yellow B44 paintwork from Z4 E89 - it's very rich, much more interesting than Dakar Yellow. Also we made contrast stitching for Extended Leather Nappa Black in yellow - there is no special name for stitching color - "which fits best" as we call it. And one more thing - the Dark Chrome Exterior package - it's quite popular option in Russia (it's not an option to be honest) - we change all chrome parts and make them black - the same as 760-option. To be continued... Last edited by Lancaster; 09-25-2011 at 08:14 PM.. |

The stitching looks nice, can't say the same about the exterior color. Dark chrome looks awesome!

Thanks for sharing this Lancaster! Looks great! Very interesting to see what's possible! Though, I don't get why the client didn't select either the M Sport Package or the BMW Individual seats, steering wheel or wheels...!?

Usually I propose 252-design wheels for Dark chrome pack - as they looks like forged (dark gray) and in M-pack wheels are silver... the same in Individual

How is the "Dark Chrome" effect achieved? Are the parts painted or "wrapped"? Have you proposed that BMW offer OEM "Dark Chrome" parts? If so, what have they said?

I don't know exactly, but this is no a foil - I think it's painted and then polished. No, I haven't - retrofitting is not my way

For the second car in 475-Black Sapphire we made Full leather Merino Finegrain upholstery in Black - as you know there is no black Merino Finegrain in Individual offer for 7-series - so we took it from Steinway edition
We used Platinum contrast stitching for the whole interior (double lap seam) even on the intersection Alcantara//leather on the headliner. The funny special option for this car was a box with 2 glasses for champagne instead of rear phone... I'm not sure if someone likes it, but if someone wants - BMW will do this. By the way glasses have BMW Individual designation - will show it later when find additional pics |

It's done in Garching (M Gmbh location) - the car is produced in Dingolfing with normal chrome exterior and then we change it. But customer doesn't have to do it himself and of course has warranty for Dark chrome... unfortunately I haven't tried to order spare parts yet... with retrofitting I mean when you do something with your car after delivery.

Got it! Thanks for the clarification! What's a rough estimate on the cost for BMW M GmbH to replace the chrome parts with "Dark Chrome" parts? (BTW: I am in love with these pictures!)

Can't tell as it very depends on market prices and calculation scheme... you can try to ask local dealer. Only I can say - it's not cheap as it's done in BMW facilities.

How about frozen color paints? Specially ordered leather steering wheels? Or M Sport Packages combined with Individual interiors? Privacy glass from the factory? Or how about other items that are not from the factory, but that are added at BMW M GmbH during finishing? Interior color-wise, I'm really interested in Cohiba, which is not offered on the "Individual Composition Package" in the United States for some strange reason.

Recently we made a car with Porsche Cream White paintwork - I've seen several 911s in it - looked pretty cool. I decided to try it on 7er... When I saw it for the first time I was... frustrated... it looked like Munich taxi cab (it was dusty). After it was washed and polished it was better.
And it was very-very expensive - I used Full leather Merino Finegrain Cohiba brown for upholstery and Champagne for contrast piping and contrast stitching. But what was really unique - the dashboard was done in Cohiba brown as well (usually in can be only black due to sunlight reflection), plus the sterring wheel was also made in Cohiba brown and even the headliner was Cohiba brown, but as there are no official CB alcantara we made the headliner in leather... Someone said that the feeling inside is like you've being eaten by a huge animal and now sitting inside And here you can see these glasses in more details |
