Somehow I'm a bit skeptical about that, my friend is now 32 years old, and he hopes to make that in another 2 years as a radiologist. He also has $1100/mo. for 30 yrs. in student loans to pay back. Now you're saying many prison guards earn the same? I'm gonna say BS. There's a big difference between someone who works for the State of CA in a prison and makes 200k as a doctor, and a guard. FYI the median salaray for a prison guard in CA is 67k, so use that number if you plan on a career change. Yes, there may have been two officers who made 200k, but in a state as large as Cali., I wouldn't say two is "many." And don't mistake an officer for a guard.

A lesson in class ?? For answering the question? Sorry I did not read the thread and realize that everyone was f'ing around...I am proud of my accomplishments and have nothing to hide. I am sure there are people here that make alot more than my wife and I do. In NYC, I am just another suit.

No I said our joint income is over 200k. That does not mean it is 50/50. She makes around 70k I think. But if she would get her masters and become a nurse administrator she would be around 120k. Nursing is actually a pretty decent profession, and there is a shortage of nurses and nurse administrators. And the hours are great. My wife works 3 days a week 7am-7pm.

About 50% of people lease MB's and of the people who lease 80% of them are doctors/lawyers and other high income earners (according to my MB sales guy). Reason being is they are smart and realize that instead of wasting $50k out of pocket on a car they can put $1k out of pocket and invest the $49K and hopefully make enough money to offset some of the lease costs along with depreciating the car lease for business use.

My family used to buy all of our cars strait up but then when we sat down with the accountant and worked the numbers out being a small business owner we figured we would save a substantial amount of money by leasing our cars.

I could of traded in my last car worth $37k at trade in and paid in full that day for my new E90 along with getting cash back. But since it made more economic sense I put down $5k since you dont pay tax on the trade in value and got a check written to me for $32k and right now thats invested in a energy fund and my monthly payment on my car is $26X or $3,120 a year meaning that my investment has to make 10% a year to cover my yearly car payment. So essentially I am leasing a E90 for 27 months for only $5k well actually less since some of the cost is taken out because of business depreciation.

You dont get wealthy by writing out checks and being foolish with your money, make your money work for you dont work for your money.
Well put.

It depends on the bank you work with and the volume of business you do with them. When I was in college I used to run a the office of a small company and we were paying the following:
Mastercard: 2.3% transaction cost.
Visa: 2.1%
Amex: 3.1%? (I think I know it was over 3%)
Discover: around 2.5%

That is why alot of dealers do not want to accept a credit card when you purchase a car. On a 50k car you are looking at a transaction charge between $1050 and $1550.

Does anybody really think that people who earn x amount of dollars need to tell everyone on an anonymous forum how much they make? Then all the teenagers are in awe and say, you and your wife make that much? That much is barely enough to get by in NYC/NJ, but impressive nonetheless?

When you put together all the misinformation from this thread alone, how does it help the 18 year old who is planning to lease his 335i this summer? It really steers him wrong.

As far as investments are concerned..If anyone is interested I own a decent position in an oil company, tanker and carrier that pays a pretty handsome yield. They are a good company with solid earnings but what I really love about it is the high dividend which hedges you somewhat against short term market depreciation. In the long run the market is going higher and will always trend higher. It's not the guys that rolls the dice on google for earnings with a naked call that have balls or are the smart investors, it is the guys who can stomache being down 50% in a good company and hold on. The only way to make real money in the market is to buy good companies, with a strong product line/service, that are always putting money back into the company to expand.

It worked for Warren Buffet and it still works. Look at 50 cent. He bought what a piece of Vitamin Water a few years ago bought in for like 7 million or something..When coca cola bought them recently he cashed out with like 700 million.

For those interested the energy company that I own is Frontline Ltd. (NYSE: FRO) it is trading around $42/share paying a 14% dividend.

Also for speaking of credit card companies they are a good place to invest also. Mastercard IPO'd at $39 less than 2 years ago today it is $140 something (NYSE: MA).

Keep your eyes out for VISA they are set to IPO sometime between 10/07 and 4/08 should price around $65 with long term targets north of $200
