Digital clusters can be a good thing if they're used to provide more information to the driver. The digital clusters in the new Audi TT and Lamborghini Huracan can display the navigation in addition to the speedo/tach directly in front of the driver:
If you don't want the map full screen, the display can be configured split screen, or with the map in the center and the gauges on each side if you like. And in the future, automakers could eliminate the side mirrors entirely and simply project the image from the side camera in the digital cluster whenever a car enters your blind spot. So lots of potentially neat ways that the digital cluster could be beneficial for drivers. But if automakers just use it to display the tach/speedo digitally I agree that it doesn't make much sense. BMW uses the same NVIDIA graphics chips as Audi/Lamborghini in their instrument clusters/infotainment system, so the hardware is there if BMW wants to take advantage of it. It's merely a programming issue, and of course they'd need to integrate a better display for the cluster. Hence why an OLED panel would be ideal. |

B8 VW Passat has a fully digital cluster available as an option, similar to what Audi offers.
I don't care for the 'stick on' tablet in current BMW's, at least they should make it retractable.

MB design is miles ahead of BMW in my opinion. Just look at the S-coupe. BMW has nothing on that car. And this new 7 series interior looks just like the 320 Diesel loaner that I just had last week, except it's now bigger. Too cheap looking.

......and we're right back to basics. Benz for the passenger, BMW for the driver.
(I work at a BMW dealer.) Can't lie. The interior and exterior design of the S-Class is something to marvel at. Every time one passes, my eyes are fixed until it's a blur in the distance- and having recently commissioned one for a night out, I applaud the ample considerations made for every occupant in the vehicle. There's the rub. MB spends as much time thinking about the people around the wheel as they do the person behind it. *Kanye voice* BMW doesn't care about passengers. (Except for their safety, of course!) BMW wants to fuse man and machine. So, to the true brand enthusiast, endure the B&M about how the original Game Boy had a better display and build quality than the new 7. Because while we'd appreciate increased attention to appearance, we really just want to know how it drives. |

Not sure if anyone mentioned this, if you look really carefully from another angle in this pictures. It appears that the raised physical parts of the speedometer is simply a translucent physical overlay with the shape of a traditional speedometer. While it appears printed, the whole thing is actually LCD, with no printed bits.

F01 7series instrument display looks classier
By the way, what happened to the space between the speedometer and the Rev counter that exist on F01? there is info displayed there normally! |

I like the existing Option 6WB......although some say the response time is slow and a bit laggy (which is why it couldn't be used for the current M5 and M6)
Hopefully with the new upcoming intrsument display, the hardware would be much faster. |

And it definitely does not compare to our W222 S550 but usually they should have one of two things that helps the car stand out and at least market itself. The F series 7 had loaded techs like HUD whereas the W221 did not. Still miss the design of our W221 tho.
