WHat do they run & trap in the 1/4? Mod friendly? I assume it would cost quite a bit to mod them, though...

If you prefer a hatchback or 6spd manual, you can buy a Golf R, which have the same drive train and share the same platform as the S3 for much less money. |

Its weird but makes sense to buy the S3 used and the Golf R new. For whatever reason they depreciate at different rates. The Golf R can be had for less than an S3 new, but if you can do an S3 that’s a 2-3 years old, you’ll save 15-25k over a new one.

Speaking of Golf Rs - have they been discontinued? They only have a 2017 Golf R to configure on VW's website, and there is not a single new one listed on autotrader.com anywhere in the country.

Oh yeah, and double the warranty of '17's. Worth noting that '17 GTI's and R's are currently available new for up to $10k off MSRP. |

The VW golf r is one of VW's most premium models and is very very rare... hence it keeps its value. The Audi on the other hand is built of a base Audi and is one of its lowest models plus its considered an entry level luxury car which adds to that depreciation... ...all things considered and the options on the cars, I have no idea why anyone would choose the VW (even if new) over a 2yr old CPO Audi. |

You can get a 2018 GTI but not a Golf R. So people are getting GTIs or S3s.

That is odd. S3 and Golf R have the same drive train. Wondering why they would hold the R and not the S3

My understanding is that at this moment, RS3s and Golf R's are being held... no idea if its emissions related.

Ever since Audi started diluting things to sell more cars, I've not seen the S models as an enthusiast cars. The S4 used to be a legit M3 competitor back then. Now you need an RS5 to get the same.

Again, good pickup, the S3 does some things better than the M235i (sedan vs coupe). |
