Gesture Control
I've had my 2018 750 for 10 weeks now. Regarding the gesture control it works quickly
and accurately for volume control, changing stations, and refusing a phone call, but the single finger pointing to answer the phone doesn't work to well. I have to point repeatedly till it finally works. Based on how the others work so well I can't figure if it's me not being good at pointing or if it is something that you also experience. |

Hi,
I have had mine just over 7 weeks, and have found that it is pretty accurate provided that your hand is in the right place fort the camera and making a fairly good stab at the hand shapes. I sat in the car for about 20 minutes playing with gestures to get them to work consistently. Have a play... |

I stopped using it because i caught myself pointing, spinning, waiving and ultimately flipping my center console off because of inconsistent readings of my gestures.
Plus, being in traffic mostly in Los Angeles, people in cars next to me, were looking at me as if I was on some serious drugs or had some major problems.

Is there a single person here whose decision to buy BMW was influenced one iota by gesture control being available? I would certainly rank it among the least needed options. Voice control is far more accurate and versatile.

I would not have made my car choice decision based on it, but as it is there I will use it. Similarly with the concierge service, its included for free, so I will use it - but would not pay to have it.
However, the one thing that bugs me is Apple Car Play - you pay a couple of hundred pounds for it, but it is a subscription for 3 years, so after that time you have to pay an annual fee to continue to use it - ludicrous! All our other cars with it, have it for life as a paid feature, just like any other option. I would not buy it again, or any other “feature” like that which is subscription based for no valid reason. |

It didn’t have an effect on my choice, I thought it would be a gimmick, but I use the ‘2 finger’ option for mute which is really useful. There are buttons on the wheel for volume and skipping tracks, but not mute.
If you specify car play then I’m sure it’s for life, only 3 years when you activate it after purchase. |

I’ve checked my price list (Jan 17) and it says “Available and active for the lifetime of the vehicle” But checked the current price list and it says active for 3 years, so depends on when you bought the car. Pretty cheeky making you pay after 3 years.

In the US, CarPlay was I believe 10 years up until 2019. In 2019 it became a year subscription. I was also told that isn't a apple thing but a BMW decision.
As far as muting the radio goes, I believe if you push the volume button in that it actually just mutes the radio and doesn't shut it off.
