Smile G12 Performance Improvements

Dear all,

I recently purchased a CPO 2018 750i xdrive M-Sport. It is truly a beautiful car and drives wonderfully. I previously owned a 2010 550i and an E38 before that. I love everything about the new 750i except for the acceleration, even in Sport Mode. This is especially true when merging on the highway or passing other vehicles. I know that the G12 is a different type of car and other options such as the B7 and M760i were out there. I believe I have reset the adaptive transmission from the previous owner (put the car into ON and depressed the accelerator for ~1 min).

I would welcome any advice on potential performance upgrades/tuning that would improve acceleration without damaging the car or invalidating my warranty. Now that BMW and DINAN have ended their formal relationship (and the DINAN upgrade would invalidate my CPO warranty) there do not seem to be many options.

Thanks a lot!

I don't believe they support the 750i G series yet. Not sure why. They support the 740i G11/12.

JB4 has a beta unit right now

https://burgertuning.com/products/n63-n63tu-jb4-tuner

I also have a CPO and having come from an F10 M5 I was so disappointed to see the G series lacks any performance parts. Even Dinan had more mods for the F series than they do the G.

I personally went with DME Tuning Stage 1. I remove the tune before i go to the dealer.

Either way, if you blow your motor, if they dig hard enough, they can find either products.

You are better off with the DINAN over any other product if warranty is a concern since DINAN will cover their product and any issues caused by their product that the dealer won't cover.

What about AC Schnitzer? They give you up to a 5yr warranty depending on country.

UK you get 3yrs.

Thanks a lot! I contacted the Dinan distributors in Tulsa and Kansas City and they have stopped doing the installation for some reason. Will investigate other areas.

Does anyone have experience with the Racechip system?

Hi,

Not sure what you mean about the acceleration, I picked a 2016 CPO with 35Km, the car is a beast especially in Sports Mode. The pickup is unbelievable considering the size and weight of this vehicle. I came from an E60 545i Sport which was also tuned and crazy fast but nothing compare to the 750ix. I would chat to your dealer and check if they have. another 750 to test drive and compare!

Also not sure if you can reset the adaptive transmission on these cars, I know this was a feature on the E60 but not sure if it is the same on the G-series.

Thanks Moopai for your feedback. I made an appointment with the dealer to have it reset. They said it can be done. Agree it performs better in Sport mode but would like more acceleration when passing or entering highway without changing modes. Might be the best option.

Let's know what the dealer will do and if you see any improvement.

Good Luck!

Agreed, because my 750 launches pretty hard, I have surprised many "faster" cars.

I thought about tuning mine, but it really doesnt need it. ( I still may though lol)

I'm in the same boat. Haven't met a car at a red light that I couldn't leave in the dust. But the allure of 600hp is so tempting.

https://dmetuning.com/products/bmw-750xi-2019

All that crazy performance for only $1700 bucks?

Just had the Adaptive Transmission reset at BMW. It drives like a completely different car. It will learn my driving habits over the next 100 miles. Will be a fun 2-3 days!! Will decide if further tuning is needed afterwards. Thanks for all of the advice!

What kind of HP and Torque increase did you receive after this tuning?

Bad ass! Glad to see another tuned 7.

Did you go stage 1? Mind sharing your numbers?

I went stage 1 in mine, have not put it on the dyno yet. Been tempted to go stage 2 but I'd like to hear how the car sounds with downpipes.

I agree, night and day difference.

Beautiful car and color!

Car is lease didn't want to do stage 2.
Thinking of getting a BMC air filter but not sure if it may be worth it.

Whoa, nice torque numbers. The car in stage 1 is plenty. Makes me want bigger brakes now

I did go with BMC filters. I can't say yet whether it's worth it or not. BMW has had my car for almost a month due to parts coming from Germany. I'll know soon once I reload the tune.

Meantime, driving a 2020 7. Enjoying the new body style.

I agree with this post. Mine is a monster. I would never describe the acceleration in this car as sluggish. If I take people for a ride in sport mode with sport active on shifter it bounces your head off the head rest.

BM3 can be added for your car, but there are no OTS maps available, thus a custom map is needed which is a little more $ but you for sure get the best tune for your car.

That torque number is f**** NUTS that's why I love these motors.

I have the N63TU engine, I believe the new G12 has the N63TU2. Nonetheless, I have a DME Tuning S2 tune with downpipes and intake and the car runs 11s in the 1/4 mile on street tires and pump gas. Also keep in mind that's RWD, X-Drive should yield even faster numbers. Also my 550i GT runs the 7 wheelbase so similar weight I believe.

You'd be amazed how fast these cars are with just a tune. World of difference. That being said, I am not a fan of DINAN at all. Any DINAN-tuned car seems to have underwhelming performance improvement, including when I had it myself on my old car. With the way these new tunes are removable, I wouldn't be too worried about warranty issues. However, it wouldn't hurt to make friends with a tech in the service dept just so they can keep an extra eye out for you.

People in the back seat feel the bounce and power of my 750 and I don't even floor it. This is the case in both Comfort and Sport mode but for sure the Sport mode is a lot more powerful.

I'm a picky driver and I drive my cars fast at times, if I felt this car was sluggish I would've done something about it by now!

Let's not forget this huge beast goes from 0-62 miles in ~4.3s...
