G11 newbie question on service...
Hi all-
Long time lurker first time poster. I purchased a 2018 740iX back in March with only 22,000 miles. Since then, I managed to put only 2,000 miles on the car (thanks to Covid, etc). Regarding servicing the car - I assume you always go by what the computer says - NOT how much you drive, amount of miles, etc? I guess what I am saying, I figure to be under the pretense that you should change the oil in your car at least once a year. Or at least it is not a bad thing to do. I guess since my last BMW was a 1994 3-series, I am just not up to par with the sophistication of the technology of a 2018 7-series. Thanks for any comments! |

This could be complete horseshit but as the oil ages I figure it's viscosity decreases which would place additional stress on the turbos. For that reason I theorize that changing it more frequently diminishes that stress by replenishing oil with thicker viscosity which is a better lubricant. Turbo stress is also decreased by letting the vehicles warm up properly before driving. I'm sure there are people smarter than me that will either agree or disagree. I guess I just do it because I've always done it at this point. I figure it can't hurt and over the long run won't cost me much more money. |
