alpina?
I have a 2014 bmw 750i with m sport package.
When I look up the Vin # it says that it's a b7 alpina. If it was a alpina, wouldn't that be embossed on the rear bumper cover? Yes I have triple checked the Vin for accuracy and I've checked several Vin check websites. Anyone that can clear this up for me would be very much appreciated. Thank you. |

If was a true Alpina…not only the bumper…but the steering wheel would have an Alpina emblem, and have the Alpina blue & green stitching, the instrument cluster would be Alpina (see pic below of Alpina steering wheel and instrument cluster), the engine acoustic cover would have an Alpina emblem…and there’ be an Alpina plate on the inside (usually in the headliner).
We can’t verify anything you’ve said to exclude or explain what you’ve seen since you didn’t post a pic or your VIN so that it could be run. Perhaps you’re seeing a line in the VIN decoder that describes both the BMW 7 series platform and Alpina platform since they both are the same. The Alpina models are plucked from the assembly line where Alpina does there thing to them that were aforementioned above. Are you seeing a VIN decode similar to the one below? If yes, then it is a regular BMW 7 series:

I've checked around the car and there are no alpina emblems.
Ran the Vin through bmw and it's a 750i with m sport package. |

1. Door Sills will be lit with "B7" on the F01 2. Rear bumper will wrap around the exhaust pipes 3. Quad exhaust pipes 4. Trunk will have an Alpina trunk spoiler 5. Wheels will be Alpina (unless someone swapped them out) 6. Tuned 500 HP engine (up from 408 HP on the 750) From the outside, it's very hard to miss an Alpina B7, B8 or XB7 here in the US - sort of rare. A good F01 B7 example can be found here... |

Tons of posts about this issue already.
In my experience, having a genuine B7 currently: The US spec F0X Alpina B7s are processed by most as more of a massive option package, with BMW still being the primary manufacturer. To the extent that every damn VIN decoder, valuation site, classifieds, insurance company, auction, etc. seems to decode the vin for B7s and 750i models interchangeably. There are clear distinctions in the VINs, yet here we are. It seems like a failure on BMWs part to me. Maybe it’s something to do with the fact that US Spec B7s don’t catalogue as being manufactured by Alpina GMBH like the European models do. Even the title docs don’t mention anything about Alpina GMBH here. Just BMW. It’s infuriating. Especially when you are trying to price out a good one as a buyer. You have to filter through 100 750i models that are mislabeled. Lots of ignorant sellers who have absolutely no clue, willing to confirm the false information. I can imagine more than one person has been convinced they own a B7 because of this. Luckily, there is a massive visual difference. If you aren’t sure if your car is a B7, it isn’t one. You can only hope someone looking at a real B7 can tell the difference. Costly mistake if not. Here is my serial number if you feel like decoding it to see the option differences vs a real B7: DS15444 |
