G11 / G12 oil dipstick? Fixed or adjustable

I do NOT trust the oil sensor on my N62R engine - G12 2016 750i.
When I first got the car, the add oil indicator came on when 1 quart low. Last week, a more serious warning light came on as it was TWO QUARTS low!. My 2013 Audi A6 has the same type of stickless setup, but unlike BMW, there is an adjustable stick with a calibration book. Open to any ideas for a fixed or adjustable stick for the N62R. I could buy another Audi stick and calibrate it on the next BMW oil change.

Just to help with not getting incorrect information for your engine…see info below for engine in the 2016-2019 G11/G12 7 series. The N62 engine was in the e65/e66 7 series.

I guess I would be a bit skeptical as well if only way to check was with the sensor. But the truth is that those sensors are very accurate. I have 740dX which has a dipstick so I can compare those two, and the sensor is spot on with resolutions around 100ml. The technology is not so complicated or new either that it should be unreliable. What ruins those sensors are oil additives (not the base oil additives, the extra crap your put in your engine) and coolant mixing.

If my engine was two quarts low, then I would be more worried about where is the oil going, rather than how accurate is the sensor.

BMW V8 (turbo) engines tend to burn oil…so unless it is excessive…you’re probably okay. I would recommend carrying a quart or two (or liter or two) in the trunk storage area (along with a disposable funnel) so that you don’t get caught without something to top off the oil.

Also, BWM changed the amount of oil for the electronic display somewhere around 2013/2014 model years. When the electronic display gets to the minimum level on the iDrive screen…it used to say fill with 1 quart. The newer models now say 2 quarts.

Also…if the warning is only amber…it’s not SEVERE yet…just top off the oil. If its a “severe” warning…it will be RED.

Agree - I’d suggest prioritizing locating where the 2 quarts are going…
