Radiator electric fan
Just purchased a 2018 G11. Great far so far but yesterday when I switched off car and locked it the radiator fan switch on (was running fast) and stayed on for around 5 + minutes. I would normally only expect this on hot summer days.
The engine was at normal operating temperature and considering it is winter it can't be necessary to cool the engine. This is the first time it did this, is this normal (ie has a specific function) or a fault (and if so what?) |

Completely normal. This happens if you shut off the vehicle during or immediately after exhaust particulate filter regeneration. Even though coolant temps on the dash say it's normal, which they are, the filter itself is around 700c degrees, throwing off immense heat into the engine bay. To keep things under control, fans will run for a bit after shutting off the vehicle. Perhaps it also circulates coolant to cool down EGR coolers as well. I'm thinking the low pressure cooler could run pretty hot.

Ditto…the n63Tu variants has 3 separate cooling circuits and the elec water pump and aux fan can run for up to 30 minutes or 11 minutes (respectively).
See info below for criteria that can cause after-run of either the fan or elec water pump…(I don’t see ambient temp listed as one of the criteria):
