I use the slider all the time in winter. Not so much in the summer as it is permanently on cold max. Works well, and is a simple concept.

Not sure why so many don't like it...???

Try going back to an E70 I love my winter beater but instead of a wheel in the center of the dash you have to navigate down a few levels in the climate system and adjust for each zone.

I'd kill for a wheel.

It has definitely been more than +/- 5 degree change on all my bimmers, once you turn the face blower temp wheel.
In the winter, turning into max "blue/cold" range give you a blast of freezing outside air in your face, regardless of HVAC temp setting.

Basically, the dial is a simplified version of multi-level/multi-zone temperature controls you will find in a Rolls. But way simpler, and covers 99% of the needs.

Very helpful.

Most people like it, once the understand how it works (well described in the manual, that few read).
Few people don't understand how it works, so we share our experience on this forum. Then they get it.
And then there is an obligatory guy who just loves to hate stuff.

Pick a feature, wash-rinse-repeat.

I find it most useful when my temperature is set at 70-75 degrees. If its cold out, I slide it to red, when its warm, I slide it to blue.

I use the slider all the time. I keep my temp set to 70* usually. I use the slider to blend in some heat or some cool air at night. It takes a second. I think it's a great feature.

I reason for this is to blow cold air on your face to keep you alert. Nobody on here gets it. The 21 bmw have this feature buried under five different menus. I adjust this everytime I drive. It’s a pain in the neck to do while driving. You can’t even set a shortcut for it. So stupid of bmw.

How about in the winter. Do you like cold air coming out when you are cold?

Try that driving in a 21 bmw. 5 menus to change it in idrive 7! Lousy design.

If you have iDrive 8/8.5 (2023+ car with only screens), you can create a shortcut to it, but not in the way you'd expect. Go to the main climate screen and press and hold the "settings" icon. Now it shows the option to make it a short cut. If you go into the actual settings screen that shows the blue/red slider, you can't get it to make a shortcut there (which is odd).

Yes since I live in Florida. If I didn’t I would have the heat on, which should normally switch to warm air without the need for a wheel. I still think it is a useless function but thanks for asking all these years later.
