This M-package let the 7-series look sportier and younger.
I'm driving a 530d for 5 years now. I'm thinking about buying a 740d with this package. The only thing that holds me from buying this car is my age. I'm 38 now and think i'm too young for a 7 series. I think i'm going to wait for the next 5 series next year. |

It is not like the 7 series looks like the Lexus but more like all full size luxury sedan must have the same style to please that customer segment. The car has to be elegant and stately yet with some flair. Anything too adventurous and impulsive is out. Buyers in this segment want to appear powerful enabled by authority, intelligence and class as opposed to the dictative raw power of a M car.

I think if you closely there is a very slight difference between the 7 Series M Sport wheels and the X6 M wheel.
The X6 M (red body) is completely flat on the machined face, whereas the 7 wheel is more faceted. I think the chrome make the car look bulbous. But I have a question: How many 7 Series M Sport buyers would take the car down the track - especially with a diesel engine, which is geared for economy and not max performance. I'm guessing not many. Going down the freeway today, I saw a nice 750Li slightly ahead of me so I trailed it awhile just to watch it. It glided nice and smooth. So putting myself in the BMW design engineer mindset: We'll add a M Sport option to firm up the suspension a little, but not much because if these buyers wanted that they could buy a M5 or M6. IMHO, the M Sport option is for buyers that can afford it, but don't necessarily crave performance. It's more of an afterthought rather than a central premise - chrome would be more important. Just my 2 cents. Last edited by teagueAMX; 06-28-2009 at 09:56 PM.. |

glad we ordered our F01 sport when we did. I don't care for the aero kit. and thats a pathetic excuse for an M steering wheel. its just the regular sport wheels with an M glued on

I love those wheels!!
I don't like the chrome though. I'd vinyl wrap that black.

The CS Concept Coupe was a far superior design. The 7 is supposed to be BMW's flagship, yet I feel that the 7's technology and design leadership is being supplanted by the M5/M6 and their X5/X6 vehicles. Any one of those four, in my opinion, has superior exterior and interior design as well as technology, while it seems that the 7 is relegated to a technology/design purgatory 10 to 20 years past.
The F01 even makes my E32 look far more handsome and state of the art by comparison. Again, isn't the F01 supposed to be BMW's flagship? |

I have to agree.....it looks great! The 2011 7 Series M Sport cars are already at dealerships and BMW changed the inserts to black from chrome. The dealer I visited had two cars in stock (black and alpine white). The black inserts on the black car looked VERY plain, especially since there are no fog lights with the m sport pkg. Outside of the wheels, it would be hard for the average person to distinguish the 2011 m sport car from the non m sport. The black inserts on the white car looked a little odd in my opinion. When my 2011 750i M Sport arrives in a few weeks, the dealer has agreed to change the inserts back to chrome. Apparently, they are easily removed and the chrome pieces are available through the part department.

All 2011 U.S. production M Sports will have black inserts on the front and rear. Don't think it's possible to specify the chrome inserts from the factory. The rear diffuser is also black which might look a little odd on certain colors. The pieces appear to be painted a high gloss jet black color. Might even be black chrome. My Black 750i should arrive in about a week and the dealer has agreed to swap the black inserts for chrome inserts.

I think this change is across all 2011 F01/F02 M Sport models, not just the US production M Sport models. I just checked the bmw.de website and if you configure a F01/F02 model and select the M Sport package, you will see the black inserts. And I do agree that this change to the black inserts doesn't seem to work to well with certain color combination.
I'm still waiting to see a 760Li xDrive version...

Wow, considering all the bitching about the chrome inserts that greeted the first M package, I'm surprised to read all the complaints about the new black inserts, which IMHO are an improvement.
Anybody who doesn't like the M-package aesthetics can option up a plain old 7 Series with Active Roll Stabilization, 19-inch performance tires and Shadowline Exterior Trim and they'll still be driving everything that makes the M-package worth having. |

I'm not complaining about the chrome, just stating the fact that the black they offer now looks weird with certain color combination. I think the best would be if they offered the choice between chrome and the new black inserts. I mean they already have the parts, so why not make it available as an option to the customer?!?
