This is listed in the German brochure (and I guess in yours too) as well as the international version. However as I indicated in post #58: Quote:
I was just wondering why they would build this into the European market models but not into the North American market models?!?

Perhaps there is an electromagnetic component there after all?

Just had a look through the parts database and compared the 730d to the 740 and 750 models. The only difference I found is that the 730d has two different alternators listed depending on what options you have in your car. There is a smaller 180A alternator or the 230A alternator that is standard on the 740 and 750 models. Interestingly enough, the parts database shows a 230A alternator while the brochures talk about a 210A alternator?!?
Anyway, as per the pictures below, there is no clutch that can disconnect the alternator from the drive belt... The 230A alternator (part number 12 31 7 575 347) as found on the 750: The 230A alternator (part number 12 31 7 573 755) as found on the 740: The 180A alternator (part number 12 31 7 808 074) as found on the 730d and 230A alternator (part number 12 31 7 808 075) in the fully optioned 730d :

I like those big grills, I think they look awesome! They make the car look VERY aggressive...

I hope they are going to release a 760 xDrive version (preferably with the DPC system!) with Integral Active Steering. Now that would be perfect

simulation
Excellent report... I couldn't help but wonder what the stats translate to. So I made a simulation for the 760i, the torque I used is just preliminary and may need to be ironed out a bit to account for drivetrain loss. Here is a video
