745 Li or 750Li
I am new to the forum and am looking for some advise from 7 Series owners. I am looking at an 05 745 Li and an 06 750Li. Both have around 65 - 70 k miles on them.
Is one model year less prone to issues than another? I do most of my own work and keep vehicles for a long time. My daily driver a 96 Tahoe has 237000 miles on it. How are the 7 Series to work on if you do most of your own work? I have worked on Volvo's, Mercedes and a number of American vehicles. Finally, how does the 7 Series handle in snow. I have read mixed reviews. No problems in Germany and some parts of the US, horror stories in NJ and other places. I live near DC and would think that with a good set of Winter tires and common sense it should be no different than any other RWD vehicle I have owned. |

I would go with the 750 on looks and iDrive improvements alone. I had an '06 750i for a short time, about 12m miles, and it was incredibly reliable. Never needed anything.
I live in snow country and can tell you from personal experience that if you put a good set of performance snow tires on it the car will be far better in the snow than other rear wheel drive cars; it will be as good as any front wheel drive car because of the 50/50 weight distribution. The key is the snow tires, however. Good luck! |

I had an 04 745i and an 06 750i and the 750 was superior in every way. It looked better and was A LOT more reliable. The reason I got rid of the 745 was actually due to how unreliable it was. My client advisor assured me BMW had made significant changes in 06 and he was right. It really made a difference. The only reason we got rid of the 06 was because of an incredible test drive in the 09 when it came out.

There is no comparison. The '03 745Li I had spent weeks in the dealer service bays. However, my '06 750Li was never in for anything other than an oil change. The same was true of my '08 750Li. I would not even consider the 745, especially if you would own it out of warranty. I don't think there will even be a market for the car in a few years without factory support.
