Consumer Reports Slams 2011 750Li
Road Test750Li V8Large, plush and laden with technology, the 7 Series is no longer the luxury sports sedan it once was. The powertrain is smooth, refined and punchy and the car is super quiet. The interior is impeccably finished and seat comfort is top notch. Plus, the rear seat is extremely comfortable for two. But some controls are complex and frustrating to use. Handling is disappointing overall and clumsy at the extreme, which runs counter to the essence of what BMW's used to be about. The ride is steady and supple but not as cushy as the best from Mercedes and Lexus. In the end, the 7 scores too low to be recommended.
Highs: Powertrain, quietness, braking, seat comfort, fit and finish, advanced safety features. Lows: Handling, controls, shifter, no shoulder-belt adjuster.

Correction. They have now tested the Mercedes-Benz S550, Lexus LS460L, the new 2011 Audi A8L, and the new 2011 Jaguar XJL as well. All those other cars scored higher In emergency handling than what the 750Li was able to perform.

I test drove all of them and none did better maybe the BMW didn't have ars ( active roll stabilitation) which others had. Mine has it and it's one of the best options

People shouldn't have to get the ARS system in order to get good emergency handling LOL. the E38 never had them and it was one of the best BMW's every ride quality and handling wise.

Who cares about emergency braking? I didn't buy a 7 series because of it or any of the other "low" points they brought up. They are all huge and heavy cars....4,500 pound objects aren't the best at stopping fast.
How can a car whose high points were powertrain...braking......the looks of the car...quietness.....comfort......etc. (THE MAIN REASONS A PERSON BUYS A CAR) NOT be recommended when three of the low points are friggin the controls, shifter, and a seat belt adjuster? |

I'm no physicist but it seems to me that even a large, heavy car can be made to handle comfortably, serenely and securely with the proper chassis and tire design.Add properly designed brakes and that same vehicle should also be able to brake safely and efficiently. And you should care because effective brakes could save someone's life...perhaps even your own.

Screw Consumer Reports. Car and Driver picked the F01 7 series over all of the other sedans Consumer Reports used in their comparison. Who am I going to trust? Automotive enthusiast editorial, or a team of folks who distill their reviews down to a series of checkboxes?

I would ask my wife's 5 year old cousin advice on a car before I asked consumer reports. They are great for many things, reviewing cars is not one of them.
As an earlier poster said, no ARS, no purchase. How that is not a standard item is beyond me.... Cheers, e46e92
