Our Pepper is half russian blue, and she also loves the fridge top; that and knocking anything that isn't nailed down off of the counter next to it.

She never went on top of the fridge until a couple of years ago. We went on vacation and when we got back, we noticed that she was spending a lot of time on top of the fridge. Oh well, better than scratching furniture

Our cat is really good when it comes to scratching furniture. She only scratches on her scratching posts and other designated areas. Never on the furniture. We never tried to teach her, she's just good that way. She's not perfect, though. She bites, for no apparent reason. I got bit earlier this week. It was a bleeder. Such is life with a cat.

As a PSA to those who have an aging cat:

We've been giving Max "Solencia" shots once a month for kitty arthritis as he was starting to have a little trouble going up and down the stairs.

It takes a while to take effect (maybe 2 shots?), but it's a freakin' miracle drug-- the results have been *very* positive. He's bopping up and down stairs and his bed and couch ramps with no problems and is even rolling around with the kittens-- it's like he's ten years younger.

Cost is about $275 for three months (one shot per month). Not optimal, but he's our boy and we don't have kids, and it's still cheaper than paying for dating, sports, or college.

We've been taking him to the vet once a month for the shot, but since we've had such good results with it, we're going to start Boo on it as well-- his hips are a little wonky and he limps a little bit since he tends to crawl under a very low coffee table as his "safe space" (the problem is that his "safe space" is kitten sized and Boo..... isn't).

Since we're going to be doing both cats now (and taking Boo to the vet every month is a *very* ungood idea), the vet is going to show us how to do the sub-q injections next week and we'll do it at home. We'll pick up the Solencia from the doc once every three months for both cats. Max gets a B-12 shot every month as well, and doesn't even blink when he gets injected, so it should work well.

Boo? Might just be a two-person job.

One other PSA:

Boo is our "emo" kitty-- he's always been sort of nuts.

We'd tried the pheromone plug-in's and they didn't really do much.

A buddy of mine recommend a pheromone collar, and it's a freakin' game changer-- Boo's now comes up to us for pets and there are purrs involved.

(in fact, he just came over to me and put his paws on my leg and demanded "pets" while I'm typing this.

Highly recommended-- they run just under $13 each and you replace them every 30 days.

I tried the pheromones plug in wall thing, and the change was within two hours.
Walter is still nuts, but it has calmed him down a lot.

They come in a few different flavors-- Classic, Optimum, Multi-cat.

We've obviously got the multi-cat and have three scattered throughout the house- you plug them into an electrical outlet.

They work, but the collar (or maybe the plug-in pheromones and the collar) works better on Boo.

Pretty spendy for what they are, though. I get them on Amazon-- I stock up during Prime Day at a significant discount.

Same company that makes the collar.

Sad news that our Bailey is no longer with us. I had to make that longest hardest ride with her to the specialty hospital in Albany hoping they could help her out, but it was aggressive cancer and she did not pull through. Our BOGO kitty, she was only about 5 years old but she packed a lifetime of photogenicity into it, along with purrs that you could hear across the room.
