Can't go wrong with those options. The pikesville is a solid sipper and one of the best ryes for the price, the 1920 is something special and I would say the better of the two. The 1920 just has more flavor than the 1910, likely due to a little more proof but is still a super smooth sipper.

Totally agree. 1920 is fantastic; good thing it's pretty easy to find, I tend to go through it pretty quick. I hate to say this, but in today's day and age $60 for that bottle is not a bad price. Obviously I don't want the price to go up, but I would pay more than $60 for the bottle if I had to.

You need to keep this stuff to yourself. Seeing it makes me want to get in my car and drive back to Cleveland for Dim Sum at Bo Loong.

After sweating it out mowing the back forty, I sorted my change drawer and took to the local market. They WEIGH the coins and give me cash. I actually counted the quarters, and had $22.75, but he gave me $23 by weight.
So I picked up a forty of Mike's Cranberry, 2 Scratchers, and wandered home. That went down so nice, in the time it took my wife to scratch and tell me we had a $10 winner. Back to the store, another Scratcher, another forty, and some black pepper seeds. By the time I got home, Outback had arrived, and washed it all down.

Oh, my head early this morning. . .

So I decided to try a lower priced blended scotch this weekend. I picked up a bottle of Duncan Taylor 12yr. Since I'm pretty much a beginner who started out drinking JWB, I like this one a lot. I'm also still enjoying the Kirkland 12yr Blended Scotch.

I've bought a few single malts and bourbons, however I find that I have to dilute them with distilled water to cut down the alcohol burn at the finish.

My favorite affordable blend is Ballantines (and I think JW Double Black is much better than their regular Black). Monkey Shoulder and Teachers are also pretty good, but getting up towards the price of single malts. And adding some water is recommended for any single malt; it does something chemically to release more flavor, and your taste buds will shut down if it is too strong.

Liquor store was out of my Bumbu rum tonight, so I grabbed a bottle of Appleton Estates Rare Cask 12 yo. It's 86 proof as opposed to 70 proof for Bumbu and it's apparent in the drinkability. This stuff is strong with a major burn. Nowhere near as smooth as the Bumbu. I'll have to be careful to not ruin tomorrow.
