Did you take it in and have it appraised or did you just say screw it?

When Carmax gives a real low number on your car, it is a nice way of saying we don't want it. It comes down to inventory, timing, and the local market.

There was a time I contemplated selling my car and a friend recommended car max. They offered me 15k for my 335i with ~74k miles. Took it to a BMW dealership to get appraised for trade in, the offered 20k.
