Hot Middle Consule?? Passenger's side only...
I have the 740i, 2018, and I notice, occassionally, that the middle consule gets very heated (warm/hot) on the passengers side of the consule. Now the drivers side of the consule stays cool, no temperature fluctuation. Anyone know what could be causing this? At first, I thought it might be the temperature controls being active but after turning them off, still hot. Is it an A/C thing possibly? I'm not sure what can be causing the passenger's side of the middle consule to feel like it's overheating.... wondering if anyone has any input. Thank you - perplexed in Tennessee

So how about this
I have seen this 730d
Which is £18995.00 its done 54k miles I have to do another 12k a year now in the G11 due to a work change and right now I think I might get £37k at a push for it. Due to the LCI and things they are dropping and there are tons around. To remove the issues I am having - how about swapping back down - less worry about devaluation? Or will both cars devalue the same amount regardless? Its a theory that looks to be a no brainer at first glance.. but no warranty anymore, pay for repairs etc .... |

The solution is the 19" rims with 245/45 on the front and 275/40 on the rear it's the perfect wheel/tyre combo.
When I get my 740d xdrive back I'll be swapping over to a set from the 20"

A very popular tire and also is very smooth and comfortable is CONTINENTAL DWS tires. DWS stands for DRY/WET/SNOW. All season tire, has the load rating for our heavy cars, has very good performance in cornering and is a very smooth and quiet riding tire. Put them on my dad's CL63 AMG and wow were they quiet. You can also get the Continental tires in DW formation as a sportier version if you have summer weather all year round. Also they have the tires in a staggered combination with DW and DWS.

BMW has an identity crisis. They sell the 7 in very low numbers compared to the S class and I had heard even the LS outsold the 7 this year.
It used to be BMW was the sporty choice to the S Class they do not accomplish that nor match the luxury of the S.

I agree, I dont need the 7 to be as luxury as the S, but I loved that my old one drove so well, this one is nice just is missing that dynamic edge.

MB S class has always outsold 7 series but its sales are declining more rapidly than 7 series. S class in 2015 were 21,934. Sales in 2016 18,803 and 2018 14,978. Lexus LS 2015 was 7,165; 2016, 5,514 and 2018, 9301, so yes LS outsold 7 series in 2018. Lexus obviously up and down but has strong brand loyalty. Haven't had a LS but have been a passenger and IMHO it is nice but totally sterile with no character. Audi A8 2015 was 4990; 2016, 4149 and 2018, 1599. Audi is probably losing money on tooling for A8. Source: http://www.goodcarbadcar.net Seems to me BMW is not losing ground to MB, (but not really catching up either). Not sure what BMW's sales objectives are. Mercedes likely losing customers to Lexus in what I would consider the non sporty luxury category. IMHO, the 7 series remains a sportier alternative to S class (I have had both and while MB is a fine car, I prefer BMW).

Nobody wants cars anymore, except for niche models. See: Ford. They're only going to sell 2 cars from now on: the Mustang and some economy model that I don't know the name of. Everyone wants trucks and SUV's. My local Porsche dealer is really just a Cayenne/Macan dealership.

What will suck is if the Euros go the way of Ford and GM and get rid of their cars.

Everyone's experience is different but this is I would do. Before swapping tires I would double check the tire pressure and set them to factory specs. If they are still too loud and harsh consider going down minus 1. Keep in mind the base 7 series wheel size is 18", not 19" or 20". I bought 7 series base wheels to but on my 640 GT and the ride is smooth and quiet. I went to this after cracking a 19" wheel and haven't had a problem since. These are wonderful cars and just may take a bit to dial into your needs.

I’ve got a set of 19s for my 750i, fitted with All Season tyres for the winter. The ride is slightly better, but nothing like the differences that are being described on this thread. Maybe it’s because I’ve got Executive Drive Pro?

Tire Size: 245/50R18 is the base 740 model size. When fancy hotels buy a BMW 740 to cater to customers they always specify this size tire for good reason. If you try a 7 series with this size at factory pressure specs it is a good a ride as you will find. I am not saying people need to change tires and wheels but realizing the importance of tire pressure and size will give you an appreciation of the suberb ride quality the 7 series has available. I had a 1995 BMW with 235/60R16 tires that had a great ride. Today's larger wheels look good and handle better but the butter smooth ride suffers.

Not a canyon carver obviously but way better than A8/S-class/Lexus in that regard.
