Just got the car back a short while ago, but from what I can quickly see, how it looks, and how you get to things is easier and improved, but what you are going to still looks relatively the same.

The new A/C screen seems fine.

Mine does not do that, and I looked quickly at the Window and Door settings and see all the same settings. I don't see any setting that would allow you to turn on automatic door opening upon approaching the car. There are the settings to unlock the door as you approach or walk away from the car, but nothing to open the door automatically. I can open all of doors from inside the car in the menu, and from the outside from the APP, but that is all I can see, at a quick glance.

Nothing I really noticed yet. I even went through the tutorial, and it really didn't do much other than explain how to use it. It is definitely is easier to get to things but what you go to seems to be the same, except for the A/C.

I think the placement of the different buttons are in a more accessible position. I was excited to get it, and when I did, it really didn't do much for me.

Yes, it's better and easier, but nothing earth shattering...yet? I have only had for several hours, so I really haven't played with it except to check my settings which didn't seem to change. I didn't see anything new.

I did however experience the same connection issues with the eSim, which I was hoping they fixed. They did not. In my car, the easy fix is the 30 second reboot by pressing the volume wheel, which resets it and then it is fine.

Well, I wrote earlier that I can't find anything about this and my car does not do that, but now I am wondering about this picture and what it all means. I found this when I was in my car checking the new 8.5 system in a little more detail. I am not even sure if this is new?

Anyway, I am asking my dealer because the notation on the right seems to say that the doors should open and close automatically, but mine certainly do not do that.

I will let you know what the dealer says.

*Follow up from Dealer today is that he says the "Open driver's door on approach/close when walking away" pertains to locking and unlocking and does not mean the door itself opens and closes.

Ugh. I was hoping they'd address this. Esim connects for me but not reliably and yes reset works, so I think it is a BMW and not a carrier issue (I'm on ATT FWIW).

It is better. The “drive assist plus” aka highway handsfree assist doesn’t need to be activated by pressing the mode button. When you engage regular drive assist, if you remove your hands from the wheel, it automatically goes to the handsfree mode. Also I noticed it complaints way less about lack of driver focus in this mode

Oh this would be actually an amazing new feature, but it doesn’t seem to be implemented (yet). Thank you for your update!

Would be very thankful, if someone could make a short movie about the iDrive 8.5, eg. like a walkthrough.

With respect to the navigation screen, does anyone know how to drop a navigation pin to mark a destination as opposed to putting in the address.

If I am at a location and not sure I know the address, I want to mark it by dropping a pin.

It seems a few of you have not seen these YouTube videos about the 8.5 update. In the event that is true and/or for others, I post them here for your convenience:

My 8.5 does not have this feature. I am asking my dealer to look into why.

I don’t think that means the door physically opens by itself. I think it means unlocks

I’m hoping for that. There’s no reason not able to have that feature since you can open the doors remotely in the app, why not automatically as you approach the car?

BMW, please build this in!

Seriously, as much as we like to complain about aspects of ID8 or 8.5, in my view, based on my wife's '23 MB E Wagon with latest MBux, BMW does a pretty good job of simplifying compared to Mercedes.
As a person who has experienced BMW and Mercedes, what is your opinion of Mercedes vehicles? Just curious, I’m looking at the GLS 580 or AMG 63 depending on the price they actually sell for, also the AMG GT 53 4 door caught my eye as well. Very good looking vehicle. Any information, opinions or warnings would be greatly appreciated.

I got a call today from my BMW dealer and the person that spoke to the BMW Corporate Engineer about this feature. They are saying that this feature is not available right now in the USA and they are working with governmental agencies to determine if it will be allowed. There is no answer at that point only to say it is not available.

This is what I have been told.
