I think it’s becoming more like the 7 insofar as, from what I saw in the videos, it’s more sensitive to color and trim than the pre-facelift.
In black with the chrome trim, I think it’s actually quite good looking and recapturing some of the presence and grill texture as the 80s classic S-Classes. That radar sensor is an eyesore though. Torn on the interior. Glad the center console is no longer all cheap black plastic, but too many screens and not enough tactile luxury material components. Current 7 still wins and feels more special there. Last edited by NewQ; 01-29-2026 at 07:38 PM.. |

Yes, the new S class definitely looks better than the current and black is the way to go to hide that black grille surround which will stand out in other colors.
However, I read in Motortrend the new S class is going to cost about $22k more than the current, this is a huge jump in base price and they think US increase will be similar. I just hope the new LCI 7 series doesn’t see increase in base price. Not this large anyway!!! |

The finishing is tough to predict.. Mbenz interior finish lately isn't the best across all models since covid days. Last edited by BMW5and7; 01-29-2026 at 10:26 PM.. |

As I said a few days ago, the dashboard is ugly because the screens are not symmetrically arranged. They are in different places and have thick frames like in old smartphones or tablets from 2008. So, to sum up, the dashboard does not look modern, but at the time of its release, it looked outdated.
And I was hoping that there would be a 40-inch screen on the rear passenger seat, not those tiny screens like in the old 7 series from 2010.

What Mercedes has presented means that BMW does not need to rush with the LCI. The current version is fine. They could introduce the LCI at the premiere of the Alpina G73 next year. They could refine something else during this time, especially since the current 7 series is to be produced until the end of 2032.Maybe they'll do a second facelift around 2030. But that's just my guess.

I think the exterior is more agressive looking and there are appearance and finish alternatives.Think the interior is a definite improvement.Would like to see an option to delete the passenger screen.Hope they address the QC issues. My lease is up on my '25 in October.I really don't want to buy for another 20K miles (even though I love it) and take a chance on a loss at 50k miles.I'm thinking I've got to do something. The renderings and interior descriptions for the LCI 7 definitely concern me.Also the Autobahn Package ARS has spoiled me and is a must have.MB E Active Body Control is 6-7k option.Yikes!!Nice problems to have for an old guy. It will be fun to figure out. Will be pouring over the S class press release for all the nuts and bolts.Genesis G90 anyone?

I don't mind the exterior update, except for the cheap looking plastic trim around the grill. As others said, this car will look best in black. Possibly hideous in the wrong color. This is basically a larger E class will some enhanced luxury and tech. Not the stand alone model the S was always known for being. If Mercedes really wants to do it right, integrate the screen into a nicely finished and crafted dash. None of these stick-on screens. |

You guys are funny lol. You're driving the loudest looking car on the road with all kinds of black panels and trim. This is the S Class looking more like the 7 Series.
Mercedes has always made their sedans look similar in just different sizes. The W222 S and W211 E had very similar dash layouts too. My only issue is all the stars is just garish, Mercedes has always been a brand that has relied on its prestige to come from what it is, that three pointed star on the hood used to say all that needed to be said. Having that star on the exterior 312 places cheapens it. As for price increases, remember now 4 wheel steering, warmth and comfort, power rear seats, digital light and the AMG line are all standard, so thats over $10k in options right there. (W&C "Exclusive Trim" $3,500, AMG line $4,500, 4 Wheel steering, $1,350, digital light $1,890). So today the car starts at $132,500, my guess is it will start around $145k-$150k. So thats $20k more but you get more... Would I get it? I dunno, it will depend on the lease costs. Mine right now is at the limit of what I want to spend for a car. The 7 will be cheaper to lease considerably and if I like the refresh I would probably try a 7 out and save some money since "Understated" seems to be gone with either car. |

I like them both. I like the wide stretch of wood on mine, but I like the more integrated screen on the new one. I also much prefer that beautiful wood console top and surrounds for the window controls to the piano black plastic in those areas on mine.

Honestly? I choose the preLCI. The new one looks like it was made quickly, sloppily. I see a mess with those screens and thick bezels around the displays. It feels cheap. The central screen in the PreLCI looks much more modern because it has a thin bezel like new smartphones. In my opinion, this is sabotage by someone in Mercedes management. How can you approve something like this

People literally bitched to high hell over the old dashboard. I think the new one will be just fine.

True. E and S have almost always shared 95% of the dash for the last couple generations, and that’s not an issue when the dash itself is classy enough for the S.

I don’t know what the tech part of it is. Ive seen no tech whatsoever in the short reviews yesterday, or at least, nothing that is impressive on the tech side, or better ore even equal to what am seeing on the BMW side. Even compared to 2020 BMW model years... I hope there is more comming, but the tech forward comment is just “words” at this point. I see that finally phone as key is an option for a 2027 model year, but am not sure there is anything else that is truly more tech forward than the prev one. I’ve seen this screen design concept in the EQS years ago.
