It certainly didn’t look like this was the case to me. On the hards the gap was in the low 1 seconds and eventually got to about 1.5-1.6 when the VSC started. Once Max passed Charles he didn’t pull away at all, Charles just couldn’t pass again on the main straight because of more wing.

Exactly, Max watched like a hawk by stewards so what about Leclerc?

Great race, glad LEC didn’t over drive it at the end. Nothing wrong with second, going to be a long fun year by the looks of it!

Max and Charles era is going to be one of the greatest eras in F1 as long as their teams can keep up with the cars. Two drivers with a long history with pure racing in their blood.

This entire race was exciting.

KMags had a great drive. Very sad for Checo, he had the pace to win.

I'm ecstatic and can't wait for the next races

VER couldn't pull away because he only matched LEC in sector 1.
Before tyre degradation LEC was pretty much always faster in sec1
LEC only could follow VER in sec2/3 because of DRS.

At least that's my view.

Who cares honestly, VSC should’ve never happened. All the drivers on the grid are guilty of trying to go two wide through that chicane instead of trying to set up for the exit.

The thumbs up from LEC to VER at the finish is the beginning of a new era.
I think both Ferrari and RB have been fed up by the years of political games of Merc.

I’m ecstatic these new regulations is taking away the tire management in races and is forcing the driver in front to have to push more often or all of the time. It looks like we’ve entered a new fantastic era and have some awesome wheel to wheel racing ahead of us for the foreseeable future. I couldn’t be happier

You say that now and it’s only the 2nd race, desperation hasn’t set in yet and may not as giving up position doesn’t seem as bad as previous years. But jeez “Mercedes this and that” can be relieved for a bit. These last 8 years or so really have hurt feelings.

We’ll have to agree to disagree here, nothing wrong with that.

I’ll be interested to see going forward if Ferrari keeps using more downforce than the others and why

pretty good race except Merc's.. they are middle of nowhere..
well done for Red Bull and unlucky for Perez for his pitstop timing..

i hope Australia will bring some speed to Mercs otherwise things are looking awful until now..

I think on a tight track like this, the downforce helped them gain time around all those turns. But a circuit like silverstone or spa, with those long stretches and high speed turns, that could hurt them.

So far I am extremely pleased with this season thus far!

It feels like Redbull are taking some influence from Merc last season. They realize how much more top speeds helped them especially on the second half of the season versus the heavy downforce RB.

Next time the Australian GP, I think the track will also greatly favor Ferrari.
My guess Ferrari will take 1-2 there.

The Red Bull has a higher top speed , but the Ferrari is so much faster when they pull out of a corner ..
The Ferrari PU has clearly a lot more torque than the HONDA PU ...

We witnessed a mindblowing fight ..But !
There can be only one . And today that was number 1 ..

Damn ...What a fight !!!
