That was fun lol
I"ve toyed with the idea of buying out. I blew a ton of money on my nitro RC car a few years ago and promised not to go through that again..despite how much fun this looks. |

Figured out that the transmitter has 2 rate modes. So i put it in the low rate mode and the control sensitivity and max input is cut by about 30%. This helped a lot at first. I just started flying from one counter top to another and back again. Then waling behind it and flying in and out of rooms. I'm still no good, but i'm much better than i was on Tuesday.

My buddy and I both have 550s and a few Phantoms and we tried to get some interesting angles of us shooting the other day. Unfortunately, due to stupidity, none of the GoPros that were "recording" actually had a memory card in them. So much for that idea... The tannerite shot would have been pretty cool from about 20 feet away too... |

The gimbal is looking nice man!
I would love to try flying a phantom. I've gotten really good with my F450 and F550, and time to sell them. If anyone is interested, the F550 comes fully built with a controller and everything for $1800 and the F450 has everything needed but a controller for $250. Both come with flight controllers and batteries. F550: http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2111350 F450: http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2111355 |

I've been looking at these for some time already and I think I finally would like to pick one up. I am thinking about entry level models, perhaps the Phantom 2 Vision or just the Phantom 2 with a go pro. Just some questions. How steep is the learning curve? My only quad rotor experience is the AR Drone. That's really easy to fly. Other than that, I can fly a tiny coaxial with reasonable control, but I'm not good with single rotors as I'm still trying to adjust to the secondary effects. Will I be able to deal with the phantom or am I gonna ruin it in minutes? Are there other products that I should be looking at? Will I by flying by looking at a screen or will I be flying via visual contact?

Opinions, I bought my gopro already but haven't pulled the trigger yet. I have little to no experience with multirotors, I do have rc car experience tho. I was looking at either the phantom 2 with gimble or the f550 set with gimble. which would be the best for a beginner? I know flight time Is a lot less with the f550 depending on what battery your running. thanks

I would suggest phantom 2. You'll get an easier platform to learn on, a transmitter that comes with the kit, and for less than $200 you can pickup a brushless gimbal for the gopro and be in the air for less than the F550. Chances are, you will crash or hard land, and it's nicer to know that the Phantom costs less than the F550 and will provide you with the same footage regardless. If I were in your shoes, I would buy a used DJI F450, pick up a transmitter/receiver of your choice, then learn to fly on the F450 using manual mode. When you're comfortable flying, go ahead and pickup either a Phantom 2 or F550. |

I'm back from a ban vacation.
I recommend anyone wanting to get in to multirotors to get a cheap >$100 one to practice with first. There are a few mentioned a few posts up. They make great trainers and if you can fly those you can handle a big expensive one no problem. |
