Now you've got the juices going. When I was 17 I did what was called Rap Jumping of 150ft cliffs. Basically comando forward abseiling like you have hear. Its the strangest feeling to run as hard as you can and leap off an edge.

Being 17 however, that wasn't enough though. I discovered when you let go of the rope you really start to move. And can you see the whites in the eyes of the belayer match his face. Think i made his day too.

Tim Cook and his entourage arrived on our university campus to give us
a preview of the next OS release (OS 10 I think). It was standing room
only in our rotunda with over 200 folks attending. The Apple crew could
not get Tim’s laptop to display on our big data/video projector, so i got
the call. I had it going in just a few minutes. They had the external video
port resolution set too high. Crowd applauded. Tim was standing 3 feet
from me.

This was during a time in my career that I learned to ignore crowds and
not be overly impressed with VIP’s.

I had a roommate in Germany who was a US Army Rappel Master. He used to rappel face first out of Huey's. To speed up the trip to the ground, they'd haul up a bunch of rope and then hook up with 40-50ft of rope coiled up on the floor of the Huey. Then they'd jump out and free fall until the coiled up rope ran out. They'd have just enough time to break their fall before hitting the ground. He said he and some other Rappel Masters put on a demo (Dog and Pony Show) once at an NFL game by doing the same free fall bit from inside a domed stadium. That's when you really want things to go right.

I've flown around the world in both directions.

Took off heading East and kept going until I landed back where I started from and then did the same thing taking off to the West.

I've done it both as a commercial passenger (W only) and as the Pilot in Command (E and W) for the military.

Early in 2006 I was on a flight returning to Detroit from NYC most likely and had been upgraded to first class. I was seated when a woman probably about 60 boarded and sat down with a small dog (like a peke or some such). She was crabbing back and forth with the flight attendant, the sort of crabbing that might get you kicked off a flight today. Something about letting the dog out of its carrier until take off, or not. Very agitated.

After we took off, I asked her what was up, why so tense. She explained that she was going to Detroit to make sure everything was ready for the Super Bowl (XL), and was part of the advance team for the Rolling Stones (half time), specifically Mick. We talked about that and I asked how she got that job, and she said she was following the band in the late 60s and got hired to do some roadie stuff, then to be a band assistant, then personal assistant for several of the band members culminating in her working for Mick. She commented that there was no expectation when she met the band and was first hired that any rock band would last so long or that she would have a 30+ year career with them.

Lots of cool stories from her, really nice once she calmed down.

My company was active in the XL committee, took down a couple of derelict buildings in the Super Bowl village (no permit, did it at night), and I hosted a group with seats at the 50 yard line. The only time I’ve been to a Super Bowl. Steelers beat the Seahawks that day.

Tossed a roll of toilet paper out of my airplane then did a descending

I was in Vietnam when we got word Apollo 11 had successgully landed on
the moon. I recall leaning on a sandbag wall while looking at the moon,
contemplating the insane differences between their mission and mine.

Five months later I had the privilege of seeing Neil Armstrong with Bob
Hope’s 1969 USO Christmas show at the Cu Chi base camp. I was amazed
to see him standing in front of us, but Connie Stevens stole the show with
her rendition of “Wedding Bell Blues” Just before singing she asked for
someone named Bill to join her on the stage. A fellow in the front row
leaped onto the stage. Connie put her arm around “Bill” and sang. When
she finished the dude said, “Well anyway, my name really isn’t Bill.”

Cycled across the country from Dover AFB to Travis AFB then tried to space A back only to realize AD can't Space A in the States....Sucked having to pay to fly back.

Locked up in a Riyadh jail for getting caught with a Saudi Princess in the car unescorted. I wasn't dating her, I was dating the friend. We both went to jail after Muttawa chased use around for 35 minutes and I high sided the Jeep Cherokee on the transfer case on those dreaded high curbs trying to reverse direction. The USTMSA commander got us out. Got a suspended bust but by the time I got home I had my stripe back and I was leaving Special Duty after 3 years. That was tour 2 in SA the 11 months at Al's Garage

Was on Baghdad Brake fire, not fun for our few other Heavy guys here. Dirt Bike/Hot Tube on the forward ramp airshow.

Came home from work on Sept 11, 2001 in Tokyo - saw the news that one of the twin towers were on fire.

Immediately remoted into our corporate LAN and warned my NY coworkers who were in 75 Wall St.

They had no idea what was going on so told them what I was seeing and to get to safety now.

A few mins later the second plane hit.

Eventually I found out that everyone in the team were ok.

That day will never, never be forgotten.
