Sales figures are not that relative and difficult to compare across generations that are more than 15 years apart from each other. However, I believe it’s more accurate to compare 2 back-to-back generations for sure. The launch year is just within 8 years on average.

The market dynamics change over time, and people’s perceptions of cars, vans, and SUVs also shift. For instance, a sedan like the current G70, which sells around an average of 10K units annually, is likely better in terms of sales figures (relatively speaking) than another sedan that sold 15K units 15-20 years ago. This is because it’s very challenging now to offer a sedan and convince customers to choose it over an SUV like the X5, X6, or X7. Personally, I almost wanted to get an X6M or X6 M60 as my daily driver. It’s an incredible car that combines the feel of a sedan with the capabilities of an SUV. For families who can’t afford more than one car, or say 2, they would almost certainly want their only car, or at least one of the 2, to be an SUV. In the past, most people owned a sedan in the US, cause SUVs and trucks weren’t that popular for road trips. Sedans were very comfy and had enough room (even 3 row sedans were very popular). It’s different now. Many of my neighbors have 2 SUVs. I don’t think anyone in my neighbhood has more sedans than SUV/vans count other than me. I have only 1 SUV and 2 sedans, and at some point before I had 3 sedans with 1 SUV or 2-3 sedans and no SUV at all. Everyone else has either 1 SUV, SUV + Van/truck, 2 SUVs/trucks, or maybe multiple SUV/Van/truck + 1 sedan for practical reasons I guess.

The point that is worth mentioning now: This 7-series, is arguably the most succesfull 7-series, or at least one of the best generations ever (say top 3 for sure), because it is the very first 7-series to ever exceed the S-class sales figures AFAIK. Second, you can tell from the sales trend that there is a general (increase) in sales figures trending gen to gen, when majority of other luxury sedans are struggling and seeing a general consistent decline in their sedan sales (like the S-class). In part, because the demand on sedans continues to decline, and then partially cause the new gen isn’t as desired/great as prev one, or as the 7 and other luxury sedans. It will take a VERY excellent sedan to reverse or outweigh the overall trend of lower demand on sedans. This G70 did exactly that. Others did the opposite.

I'll tell you that I once had an X6 E71 for a very long time. It used to be a very nice and rare car, but nowadays I hate SUVs. There are too many of them. An SUV is louder inside than a sedan. You hear more noise and wind while driving. That's why, if you have a comfortable, quiet sedan, there's no point in buying an SUV. Especially since the G70 series is big and tall and it's nice to sit behind the wheel.

S Class really failed, looks like a bloated E class, and BMW pulls off the sporty look much, much better

I would say that the previous gen 7 looked better pre-LCI, so I hope they pull off a very subtle LCI that does not change too much.

If something is nice and looks good, why spoil it? I hope BMW remembers this, but as you can see in the photos of the new X7, the light strip is shorter than the daytime running light strip, so there is no symmetry.

I recently looked at Mercedes S-Class cars and came to the conclusion that I like the Maybach package best, with black paint and multi-spoke wheels. But I don't like the rear of the S-Class because it's too modest. I don't like the exhaust tips either.

I don't like the single headlight design for top of the line and flagship of the BMW.

Something like that. I downloaded the renders from the forum I mentioned earlier.

Me too, honestly. Dual headlights have been BMW's staple for a while now. But it looks like this design is the only way they can pull off a more cohesive and better-looking split-headlight design. So the designers went with it and the paper-pushers are happy with it because it's cheaper.

The bigger issue with Mercedes is they are POS lately. I had an AMG GT sedan and couldn’t get rid of it fast enough.

I actually found some of their engines to be very reliable. I had 3 Mbenz SUVs with the 6 cylinder engine and they all did high miles with zero issues.
However… Lately lately it is their interiors that are truly a piece of crap…
Transmission would not have any serious “service” issues but would never shift as smooth as BMW and they couldn’t figure out their 9G issues for almost 13 years now (still waiting for the claimed software update)..

Yeah I saw that. So a more affordable variant with the same hardware as the current 60, and even larger battery for all models. BMW will crush Mbenz even more with the LCI from what I am seeing. They are doing all the right things. I thought that the SOP for the 2027 would be much sooner than a year from now though.

2027 SOP appears to be for M760 variant only.SOP for the rest looks like 7/26,including 760x.

Larger battery is great. The 5 Series interior pictures though really concern me

I have a feeling the new interior will be soulless and uninspiring just like the new 5

M5 G90/G99 nothing will help anymore. Since April, the combustion engine has had its power cut and only 540ps instead of 585ps. So whether it has a screen behind the steering wheel or not, it doesn't matter anymore. I would never buy that.

The 7 Series has a different dashboard than the 5 Series. Behind the steering wheel, you can see a screen.

I saw another shot and it appears to look more like the 5 series? that screen may be the panoramic screen right up against the windshield. Attached is what I saw in an AutoBlog article. Not a fan at all.

We'll see. There isn't much room in the 7 G70 series for the same screen as in the new iX3, because the windscreen is close to the dashboard. There really isn't much space, but to find out, you have to sit in the car and check it out for yourself. Besides, all these screens will be close to the steering wheel anyway. In my opinion, the screen in the 7 Series LCI is different from the one in the 5 Series LCI.
