And rightly so! They were getting lazier and lazier as I approached firing/retirement. They were always taking the easy way out and would rather delay an aircraft instead of making a hole for them. The movie Pushing Tin showed a pretty good representation of how we used to compete with each other to pack in as many aircraft as we could. I heard more than once "that's not a hole" and my response was always "wanna bet!" Back in my day, if you couldn't fill a 7-mile hole (standard separation would be 3 miles between and that gave one mile for compression as the planes slowed to land) you would never get certified. Now, they want 10 miles; wasting a ton of airspace. Our arrival rate was 85+ per hour on 4 runways when the weather was good and 68 +/- 10% (it was never on the minus side and routinely exceeded the plus side) when the weather was bad. Now, the rate is 60 no matter the weather. BORING!

I just got an update that the CHP pursuit package is a manual transmission. Lucky!

Funny you mention that. There absolutely will be specific driver training the officers have to pass in order to drive that car.

I saw on news the other night that people were complaining LAPD motors were sitting at cross street of a crosswalk and enforcing when drivers didn’t yield

Is this even legal?
Driving home from work yesterday on the interstate in your typical rush hour stop and go traffic, I had a car ahead of me with a freakin annoying brake light mod. Every time he hit his brakes, both brake lights would flash 3 times so they looked like hazards were on. Next the left would flash 3 times, then the right would flash 3 times, back to the left for 3 more flashes and finally back to the right for 3 more flashes. What in the actual fuck is that all about? This went on for miles. I actually considered rear ending him. LOL.

There is a subset of drivers who believe that asking them to slow down is an outrage, and asking them to slow down for pedestrians, cyclists, horses, farm equipment, etc. is doubly an outrage.

I saw some more about LAPD, and the public doesn't like that they are calling it a "sting." It's truly amazing how many people think the intersection shown in most of the media clips doesn't have lines on the street, so it's not an actual crosswalk, and the person walking straight across is jaywalking.

I find it amazing that jaywalking is even against the law in California. We laugh at the notion of that silly law here on the east coast, and I doubt that anyone has ever been cited for it.....

The emergency brake pulsing is one thing (…I have it enabled on my 992 and it only occurs during hard/emergency braking situations), but that’s not what she’s describing. The left-to-right, right-to-left panning and the flashing even under light/moderate braking is distracting to other drivers.

In case this doesn't make the national news...
A homeless woman was released from psychiatric care the other day. Her first stop was the flagship Macy's store in NYC, where she bought a knife and then went into the 5th floor Ladies room and stabbed a woman from California in the back as she was changing her baby. Local TV news reported that the baby fell from the changing table, and the victim was not critically injured. The part that this article skipped over was that the victim was allegedly a LASD deputy, and managed to detain the attacker until help arrived. FWIW, this is the *second* stabbing at that Macy's store in the last few weeks..... ![]() https://apnews.com/article/new-york-...41a5502b3d2fed Woman charged in unprovoked stabbing of tourist changing baby’s diaper in Macy’s Herald Square store Updated 12:52 PM EST, December 12, 2025 NEW YORK (AP) — A California woman changing her infant daughter’s diaper in the bathroom of the Macy’s Herald Square store in New York City was stabbed and injured by another woman in an unprovoked attack, police said. The attack occurred Thursday afternoon at the store in Manhattan. The 38-year-old victim was stabbed in the back and arm and was being treated at a hospital for cuts and lacerations. She was expected to fully recover. Her 10-month-old baby was not injured. A 43-year-old Tewksbury, Massachusetts woman was charged with attempted murder in connection with the attack and was due to make her initial court appearance on Friday. It was not known Friday if she had retained a lawyer. Macy’s issued a statement saying it was “deeply saddened” by the attack.

There is a thing called an "unmarked crosswalk;" which is between two opposing corners. We have that here. Jaywalking was made legal this year, or maybe last year, I don't remember. Jaywalking is extremely dangerous. I have a friend who was killed jayrunning. |

Jaywalking is still illegal.
California played word games to appease the groups that lobby for no consequences. The only aspect of the jaywalking law that changed is a pedestrian can’t be cited for crossing a road where they pose no hazard to passing cars (…e.g…a desolate street with no motor vehicle traffic). People who jaywalk while posing a traffic hazard can absolutely be cited. Nobody crossing a desolate street was getting cited anyway. It was another one of California’s absurd legislation games. The enforcement of the law probably sounds silly to some, but not so much to the motorists who nearly hit pedestrians that enter the roadway (…and surely not to those who actually hit someone and end up in civil court behind it). Got myself another RennLister.
I sent him a text and told him I was about to tow his car if he didn’t bring me a churro. |

I saw something that I never noticed before on TV last weekend. After a car pursuit and subsequent foot chase, one of the officers went back to their car to move it off of the road. As soon as they shifted out of park, the siren started going off again. Given how many times pursuits end with a half dozen police cars stopped with sirens blaring, it made me realize that these post-chase scenes on the TV show have been getting quieter in some places recently. How prevalent is the siren <=> Park shifter interlock around the country?????
